šÆ ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Waste Management Environmental Sustainability Specialist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing sustainable waste management strategies across our UK operations. Reporting to the Director of Sustainability, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for reducing waste, increasing recycling rates, and minimizing environmental impacts. Your expertise will help shape our company's environmental policies, guidelines, and best practices. You will have a significant impact on reducing our carbon footprint, meeting sustainability targets, and contributing to a culture of environmental stewardship within the organization.
š KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement sustainable waste management strategies across UK operations, aligning with company goals and industry standards.
Conduct regular waste audits, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for waste reduction.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement recycling programs, composting initiatives, and other environmental projects.
Provide training and support to employees on sustainable waste management practices, ensuring a culture of environmental responsibility.
Work with suppliers and partners to negotiate more sustainable packaging options, reducing waste and increasing recycling rates.
Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities, community groups, and other stakeholders to advance our sustainability agenda.
Monitor and report on key performance indicators, tracking progress toward sustainability targets and recommending improvements.
Maintain accurate records, documents, and reports on waste management activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
Stay up-to-date with industry developments, trends, and best practices in sustainable waste management, applying knowledge to drive company-wide initiatives.
ā REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in sustainable waste management, environmental sustainability, or a related field.
Proven track record of developing and implementing effective sustainability strategies, resulting in measurable environmental benefits.
Strong knowledge of waste management regulations, industry standards, and best practices in the UK.
Excellent communication, project management, and collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams.
Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop recommendations for improvement.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience using data analysis tools and software.
ā PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
Certification in waste management or sustainability, such as CWM or CSE.
Experience working with waste management software, such as WasteLogic or Energi.
Familiarity with UK waste management policies, regulations, and industry standards.
Experience in project management, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
